Fair trade -

By choosing products with the Fairtrade Mark, small-scale cotton farmers have the opportunities to improve their livelihoods. Visit http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/ for more details.

Organic -

From an environmental perspective organic cotton production reduces the impact to the producing country and the farmers themselves. Reduced soil exposure to chemicals by not using pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, helps improve rainwater absorption, decreasing the risk of damage and erosion. This in turn makes the farmers’ and their families more vulnerable to droughts and flooding and so suffer reduced yields. In addition, these chemicals pollute the water having an impact on the local biodiversity and other farmers. Pesticide Action Network UK and Friends of the Earth are great sources of further background on organic cotton.

Washing/care instructions

All our garments can be washed at 30% and this is what we would recommend because of the benefits to the environment, i.e. less energy to heat the water. Also, try to wear your clothes more often and air them in between wearing to keep them cleaner for longer, this also keeps them in better condition as washing can be quite hard on clothes. Line drying instead of using a tumble dry is again the better option for both the clothes and the environment. Do check individual items for the manufacturers care instructions.
